Two in a row!!!

I thought I'd surprise some of you by posting two days in a row. I know the readership soars after I post two in a row. I like throwing you fools a bone every now and then. If you want to check out some pics detailing the Prince Family in NYC, click here.

Tonight I thought about not eating dinner because money is tight here at the Prince residence. We worked out our budget yesterday and decided that we're only going to eat Mexican food while Megan is in school. We haven't gone shopping yet but then I scrounged together some items and made the best kick-ass omelet on the this side of Prospect-Lefferts-Gardens. Yum. Sometimes I even surprise myself. SURPRISE!!!

It's been a long, long, time.

As you may have guessed from my lack of postings, I have a job. I'm working in Manhattan now and it's been fairly swell. I'm doing Civil Engineering once again and it'll be more site development work which seems to mostly entail the grading designs between the street and whatever building. If you are more interested you can call me and I'll share all the intimate details.
In more exciting news, Megan and I went to Boston last weekend and got to see my favorite singer-songwriter, Mason Jennings. After looking closely at the picture, I'm not so sure I like Mason anymore since it does appear that he has taken quite a liking to my lovely wife. WATCH IT MASON!!!

In any event, he put on quite a show and it was great to see him on this tour since I missed him coming through Seattle (R.I.P. Grandma).

We also got to chill out with the Dettori bro's which is always a fun time. They put Megan and I up in their own personal Hooka lounge. What a party! Speaking of parties, I got a phone bill from Cingular today for $321.01. I spent 1 hour and 4 minutes on the phone with them.

While in Boston, we walked the "Freedom Trail" which leads you through some of Boston's more historic sites. I really enjoyed the old cemetaries and the cool ornate carvings on some of the tombstones. I'd like my tombstone to have a cool ornate carving of a flying monkey and say something like, "Fly away Theo, FLY!!!" or "Look out for the flying monkeys on your way to heaven!" Until then, I'll be scraping and saving, putting money into the 401k so that my executioner can afford to get me one of them purdy stones. 10% + 2.5% match. It'll do buck-a-roo!!!

Orchestration

We had some amazingly orchestrated days this past week. We’re very near finally unpacking and having our apartment together. We scored big time on craigslist this past week. We got some great deals on the last few furniture items we needed mostly from Alex’s place.

Background on Alex:
Alex is an opera singer who is permanently moving to L.A. and had a loft with one of the conductors in his company. Alex didn’t really stay in his East Williamsburg loft, having only stayed there 3 times in the past year and he had already been spending most of his time in California and no longer needed the loft.

Alex and his roommate have a black cat and his roommate did not like to clean very often, so some of the stuff we got from them had a lot of hair on it and we ended up steam cleaning the couch we got. Here’s a list of the items we got from Alex

Ottoman $10
Sectional Couch $50
Mirror $10
Trunk $5
Rug $15
Throw pillows $5/ea
Side Table $10
Wood Chair $5

We ended up renting this monster big U-Haul since they were out of the smaller ones and went to pick up all the stuff. The hardest part of the U-Haul journey was backing it up down this very narrow alley to access Alex’s building. I had direction from four different people all at once though so that helped tremendously. Getting the largest sectional piece up our stairs and into our living room was a whole different beast. We ended up taking the door off our living room and precariously balancing the sectional over the banister while and angling it in. It couldn’t have been any tighter!

We bought a more expensive bed and desk from Andrea and we’re going to pick those up on September 12th. It’ll be nice to sleep in a real bed after a month on a blow-up mattress!

In other news, I met one of my favorite singer songwriters, Sufjan Stevens last Tuesday night. Megan and I were invited to this show at a new local bar called Union Hall by a friend we met at church. We got there a bit early to find that they have two indoor bocce courts, so we had to try it out. While playing incorrectly, an observer was helpful in some of the rules and I asked if her and her friend wanted to challenge us. Instead, they split us up and after talking with them for about 5 minutes or so we figured out that she works directly across from one of our only friends in NY, Adam. REALLY BIZARRE! We had missed each other at a few other social events Adam had by arriving at different stages and it was pure coincidence that we met in Park Slope. She had heard all about us because I would call Adam to ask him questions about different areas of the city and he would often consult with her on my own questions.

So after that we ended up going downstairs and watching some bands. The music was really good and afterwards on our way out, we were saying goodbye to our new friend and he introduced us to none other than Sufjan Stevens!!! I told him I was a huge fan and ended up talking for a little while. It turns out he went to Hope College in Holland, MI were my brother, sister, and sister-in-law all went.

It’s a small world after all.
